Historical Background

The initial major project of the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Foundation was the construction of a hospital in an area where most indigent families would benefit. Since the government had started relocating the indigent families in the squatter areas of Metro Manila to Dasmariñas, Cavite the Board felt that this place was the most appropriate site for the hospital. Representation was made with the People’s Homesite and Housing Corporations (now, the National Housing Authority) to provide a sizeable lot for this purpose. Fortunately, the Foundation was given a lot almost two hectares in size (17,308 sq. mtrs) with a contract of Usufruct for fifteen (15) years subject to renewals.

Thru the intercession of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, a Presidential decree was issued authorizing a nationwide campaign for this project.
